BMW

The Opportunity

Following the development of a new global Corporate Identity (CI) by BMW AG, BMW UK was tasked with implementing this refreshed visual identity across its national dealer network. To meet compliance requirements, and uphold BMW’s commitment to quality and sustainability, Principle sought to build a local supply chain capable of delivering every CI element with the right materiality, performance, and regulatory alignment.

This represented an opportunity to reevaluate sourcing, improve sustainability, and create a rollout model tailored specifically to the needs of the UK market.

The Solution

Principle was appointed to provide full category sourcing support for the UK rollout. Our team began with a detailed demand plan, using BMW’s network data to identify the required CI elements and forecast overall rollout investment.

We then conducted a comprehensive cost analysis of the global CI concept, aligning it with the UK demand plan to establish an accurate and achievable spending framework.

From there, we sourced UK based suppliers capable of delivering the desired product look, feel, materiality, and performance across key categories including: furniture, internal signage, lighting, and wall finishes.

Our sourcing and procurement process included:

Evaluating materials for sustainability and UK legislation compliance

Supplier selection, negotiations, contracting, and prototyping

Establishing KPIs, SLAs, and supplier management protocols Simultaneously, Principle curated and specified the full suite of products and materials needed for the new showroom identity. These selections were developed into clear, scalable brand guidelines and implementation tools for architects, designers, and the dealer network.

Our Impact

The result was a fully UK sourced supply chain with the capacity and capability to support BMW’s national rollout, delivering strong sustainability credentials, competitive costs, and reliable lead times.

Principle helped BMW UK:

Meet required product cost targets

Establish a robust local supply chain

Implement a structured supplier management plan with defined KPIs and SLAs

Deliver a scalable CI product set aligned with the new global standard

Equip architects and dealers with comprehensive guidelines for sites pecific design These outcomes provided BMW UK with a consistent, future ready foundation for deploying its new CI across the network over the next five years.
