Case Study
UniCredit, one of Europe’s leading banking groups, set out to modernize both its Milan corporate headquarters and its diverse retail network. The goal was to create a digitally integrated customer experience that could strengthen brand perception, support new service models, and deliver greater consistency across highly varied formats.
For the retail network, UniCredit needed a scalable approach to introducing digitally enabled flagship branches while maintaining brand integrity across more than 500 locations.
At the Milan head office, the challenge was to design and implement a sophisticated digital ecosystem that improved communication and engagement without compromising the building’s architectural integrity or the comfort of employees and visitors.
This transformation required technical precision, design sensitivity, and a partner capable of delivering at both flagship and network scale.

Principle delivered the full technical development and implementation of an integrated digital experience spanning UniCredit’s headquarters and branch network.
Digital Experience at Milan Headquarters We engineered and installed a complex network of internal and external digital touchpoints, designed to elevate engagement and blend seamlessly into the building’s architecture.
Key elements included:
• Advanced suspension systems integrated into glazed surfaces for a visually light, premium installation
• High resolution displays engineered for readability even under direct sunlight
• Discreet cooling solutions to ensure hardware performance without affecting the user environment Principle also designed and implemented the landmark UniCredit signage on the building façade, now one of the most recognizable features of the Milan skyline.
Retail Network Rollout
Following the successful headquarters implementation, the solution was scaled across UniCredit’s branch network through a structured rollout program, including:
• Over 500 branches delivered
• An average rollout of 60 locations per year
• Modular solutions adapted to various branch formats
• Optimized production and materials achieving a 20% cost reduction
This combined appro ach ensured consistent quality, visual alignment, and seamless implementation across a wide range of retail environments.

UniCredit now benefits from a cohesive, digitally enhanced customer experience across its entire network. The Milan headquarters has become a defining symbol of the bank’s modern identity, and its signature façade signage has become a landmark within the city’s evolving skyline. Across branches, the modular rollout strategy strengthened consistency while achieving meaningful cost savings and operational efficiency. The result is a future ready banking environment—scalable, customer centric, and aligned with UniCredit’s ambition to lead in digital transformation across European financial services.
