Purpose of the Role
Principle’s team in Dubai is growing and we are looking to hire a motivated Design Manager who has a positive outlook and a go-getter mindset. The individual should be dynamic and be able to communicate his/her thoughts and ideas verbally and visually. This role is for someone who understands concept design for physical environments and can take the design forward into detail design, tender and then construction.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
- Able to coordinate with client representatives and ensure all deliverables and
communication with the client is up to date - Actively engage with Principle teams across the world to successfully deliver global
projects - Imbibe a culture of innovation in their work and the work of others
- Be abreast of new technologies, methods and practices and play a part in constantly
improving how we deliver for our clients and improve our business - Make site visits to carry out surveys in the initial stages of design to ensure as-built
elements are captured correctly in subsequent drawings - Implementation of international best-practice in design development
- Understand and conceptualise space planning that accommodates operational
requirements set by our clients - Drive forward design development and innovation to develop new and improved design solutions
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to fully understand design requirements
- Fair knowledge of MEP and how to coordinate design and MEP services
- Resolve design and construction-related issues
- Be responsible for the management of all design activities including requests for
quotations, design freeze/release and design verification - Identify and implement design improvements
- Ensure timely delivery of tasks
- Generate site liaison and project progress reports
- Review contractor shop drawings and material submittals, and provide feedback/approval with an agreed time frame with the client
- Generate project close-out reports and review documents
- Manage quality assurance, including on-site and internal evaluations
- Identify and solve project risks
- Review of civil drawings adhering to international best-practice in interior fit-out
- Generate material specification documents in compliance with relevant codes
- Establish value engineering principles to reduce project cost
- Ensure on-site material conformity and delivery review (MIR)
- Conduct site inspections and supervision (WIR)
- Manage vendors and supply chain and coordinate material samples, mock-ups and
prototypes - Create a Bill of Quantities from layout and detail drawings
- Create detail drawings, joinery and spot details for design schemes
- Coordinate with consultants including MEP, Structural, Lighting etc and ensure design intent is retained
- Obtain manufacturing quotes from our supply chain balancing cost and quality
- Report to Senior Team Members across international markets
- Keep all the files on the server up to date
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes - Essential:
- B.Arch/ Interior Design Degree
- 10-12 years of overall experience (4-5 years of UAE experience)
- Experience in design development and delivery of retail and commercial projects
- Strong customer focus with a design delivery mindset
- Native Arabic speaker is preferred
Software Skills:
- AutoCAD 2D
- Revit
- 3DS Max/Rhino/Sketch-up/AutoCAD 3D
- Adobe Photoshop, In-design
