Abbey

When Abbey National re-launched as Abbey, we were asked to mastermind the rebranding of all its head offices across the UK - without giving the game away in advance. The main challenge was installing huge illuminated glass signs on each building, the biggest of which was the roof of the Glasgow offices - visible from the motorway flyover.

We sent in structural engineers to supervise the construction of a 40-panel glass wall, and screened the entire roof to keep the project from the eyes of the public. Then we stopped the roads around and brought in a 120-tonne crane to lift the framework and foundations into place.

At the London office, we had to attach a vast Abbey logo to a glass wall housing the lift shafts. There was no way to screen the wall, so we worked all night to raise the logo using specially erected gantries.

The result: a launch that went like clockwork. Abbey's move to 'turn banking on its head' had maximum exposure - and our work turned heads everywhere.
